Mower Without a Deck?

Hey all.

My 30 year old Cub 2165 has done me well for a long time (1000 hrs.), but I know that one of these days it's gonna crap the bed.

I stopped using it for mowing my 2+ acres four years ago when I bought my Exmark Radius. I still use it for for pulling a cart with mulch and firewood mostly, but most importantly, for clearing snow with the snow blower attachment.

My question is, can I buy a tractor with a snow blower and forgo the mower deck to save money? Or, are they package deals only?

I don't know of any riders sold for just plowing snow and not have a rider deck. There may be some specialty unit out there, but they will be expensive.

Personally, I would maintain and run the old cub 2165 until it just plays out. You won't be pushing snow year-round, I hope.

Thanks. I still have faith in the tractor and the Briggs Vanguard as I've taken good care of them. My worries are mostly with the snow blower. We occasionally get a decent amount of snow here in the Philly burbs and I'd hate to get stuck.
 
I've had a 2135 for 20 or so years that I bought without a deck off CL for $50, I cleaned out the carb, repaired some linkage to the hydro and replaced the gas strut underneath and its been used to clear snow and drag a lawn roller ever since. I actually found it a deck but I haven't had the deck on it in years.

If the Vanguard craps out, if your not using the PTO, just about any motor will work. I had a 2130 an a 2165 that I bought at a local auction for $20, both were minus their motors, (apart in a milk crate), I stuck a K301 that I had laying around in the 2130, and a K341 in the 2165.
Both worked great with little effort, but will say that the newer motors, what would have been a CH13 and a CH15, were much better on fuel than the older flat head were. My 2135 will go all day on a tank of gas, while the 2165 with the K341 kills a tank of fuel in under two hours mowing with the 48" deck. It does far better with the 44" deck though.
Power wise, the single cylinder K341 pulled harder than the 16hp Vanguard it should have had, a neighbor has a minty clean 1998 2165 that's all original and he used mine one day and was shocked at how much better it pulled on hills and through thick grass. But its a lot thirstier than his with the Vanguard engine.
