Plastic B&S carb woes on Murry

Ok I looked through the forum and couldnt find what I was looking for- I have a small Murry lawn mower with the 550E B&S on it, bought used 2 years back and kept it for a backup/for the ditch, It wouldnt start so I disassembled the carb cleaned it out, removed the plastic white piece in the bowl area and made sure it was clean, I NOTICED on the right side (when looking at it near the fuel inlet) there is a place where a hose is supposed to go- about the size of a vacuum line, when assembled the rubber push button primer connects through that.I shot a tad of carb cleaner through it and it comes out on the inlet face where the clown nose (rubber primer) connects. WHAT GOES THERE? surely they wouldnt have made a stupid design flaw like that- and if nothing goes there- what good it the primer bulb?

Actually you found the not used connector that has been asked about for years. The theory is the plastic vacuum like nipple on the right middle of the carb suppose to be used for a remote primer. And to make things more confusing, some parts diagrams actually show a hose which doesn't actually exist.

If that white nipple is missing it will prevent the carb from priming. And it will pop out and be lost in some cases.

I shot a little carb cleaner in it and it came out the front- to goes to the primer bulb....Question How does this work?? Im baffeled- of course it doesnt take much- but im baffeled

No it is the plastic standalone carb, when looking down the throat of it, the fuel inlet is on the right side, where the fuel line connects, on that same side up a little higher is a white connection (it looks like a vaccum line connection) but nothing attached, if you squrt carb cleaner down the hole on the front it will come out of this connection, the red primer bulb (which is on the air filter box) aligns with the hole , so the primer bulb (if nothing is attached to this connection) does nothing???? I dont get get it- has to be something that goes there, Ill get pics today

The white nipple should have a small metering hole in it. And as mentioned before nothing connects to it, and never has even in cases where the parts diagram shows hose that connects to it.

The design with the open white nipple has been working with the present primer setup since its induction in 2015

You know if I replaced a dash on a car and seen a nipple like that I would be going crazy trying to find a hose that would be going to it....I guess thats what you get when you see "assembled in the US- with imported parts" many thanks!!!!
