Carburetor overflowing

After I fix the deck height problem on this same LX188, I'll give the old carb a closer inspection.
Funny thing though, the engine wasn't burning black smoke, when the top vent of the carb was pouring gas.
Would think when she was drowning in fuel she would be chugging black fumes out.

It's not a return line.
With the new carb on it now, it's not even dripping gas.
But I'm still going to route a longer line from the carb to below the muffler.
The first time this happened, the muffler (or something) ignited the gas.
Just a hint:
Instead of just trial and error guessing,
I pressure test carb needle and seats when working on carbs, especially if one is flooding.
Some of the Nikki type carbs have a internal gasket that when it goes bad will allow fuel to BYPASS the needle and seat and flood the carb.
I use a mityvac for pressure/vac but a blood pressure bulb and a low pressure fuel pump gauge can be used
I also install in-line fuel filter and fuel petcock on my own equipment.

Just worked on my first Nikki - damaged the supper thin "gasket" round the float need tube.
Got to say Nikki carburettors are an unnecessary and hard to work on alternative design to the Walbro (or similar).
Replaced supper thin/small gasket with trimmed down plumbers gas tape - no leak.
Like you installed a fuel tap and wrote on bonnet/hood FUEL ON/OFF in the hope that if it ever leaks again, at least it wont flood the engine.
You did good repairing the OEM Nikki.
Once you get familiar/experienced with the Nikki carbs they are more user friendly. They USUALLY do not do well when you take one apart and put it back together without replacing o ring and gaskets. (and you need to make sure you are using the correct kit for the o rings and gaskets.
You have to keep a heads up if replacing a Nikki using the Carb part number or you will be steered to China clone replacements and some of the clones are not good when new.
Lots of info on-line about the Nikki's and the different styles/types. Steel bowls, aluminum bowls, so as to get correct kit.
I keep couple of the OLD NLA Walbro carbs around as TEST carbs to make sure that the carb (usually Nikki) is the cause of the engine not operating correctly.
