Starts, runs a few seconds then cuts out.

Hello all.
First the stats you ask for.
Weedeater push mower pull start basic budget homeowner mower.
Briggs and Stratton 80000 450E engine.
Owned 8 years.
Symptom: Press prime bulb a few times. Engine roars to life after a few pulls. About 20 seconds later it quits.

When I prime the engine. Does it let in air or gas.
Using True Fuel 4 cycle gas exclusively.

What I have done to resolve the problem:
Replaced carb with new carb. Replaced sparkplug. Replaced gas. Put Seafoam in tank. Replaced fuel cap with OE fuel cap. Bale switch is clean.
Today I will pull the gas tank, check for blockage. Is there a filter in there and do I need a filter? I will try to check the magneto with a multimeter.
In 2021 I replaced the magneto (weak), carburator, bale cable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
The newer Briggs OHV push mower engines with the plastic carb use the primer to push air into the fuel bowl which in turn forces fuel up the emulsion tube into the carb venturi. I would replace that supposed gas with some reach frech gas and see what happens. The after 2015 Briggs OHV push mower engine have a really strong tendency to not like fuel that is even slightly off fresh. Like fuel that will burn in everything else you own won't even pop in these engines sometimes.
 

Thank you. ILENGINE Good explanation of what the primer bulb does. So I guess a little is being pulled into the carburator by the primer bulb but after that is burned no more gets into the carburator. I did replace the fuel with a fresh unopened can of True Fuel 4 cycle which is what I usually use with good results. The mower was made in 2016 so it should be the 2015 plastic carb you mentioned. Today I plan to see if there is some kind of blockage in the fuel line/ tank. I think gas is just not replenishing in the carb. Starts strong.​

 
some of the fuel tanks that have the plastic carb on them warp. If it this style, I have had that happen to me. To fix I used a piece of 3/8" glass, and some wet and dry to flatten the tank again. There are some youtube programs on it if it this style. Image below is from Amazon if it is this style.

It is the curved type for the 450E engine that attaches on each end and a 5 inch 6/16 diameter hose runs forward to the carb. I pulled the fuel hose off and nothing inside and when the fuel drained it had a great flow.
 
I did not see a filter unless it is hidden somewhere in the fuel tank. I changed the oil and installed a new bale cable (that caused that problem before on this mower.) Started it up again and it ran stronger and longer then shut off again. Starting with the fuel cap off did nothing. I am going to try to run it with the filter off and also check the breather tube. Last desperate checks will be the spark plug (it was replaced) and the magneto then it is off to the junk yard for this thing.
 
It is a lot to look up the engine when we have its full model and type code or the serial number since it a 2016 and some those serial numbers can be used. This way we can see how it is configured.

In noticed the air breather tube fits loosely and can come off easy without much trouble.
Also for some time the engine had to be rocked back and forth several times durring start up in the period before failure. Imitial start up is strong before shutting down.

you may have to post the model and serial on the Engine too. The mower number took me to a pictorial that gave a Briggs Engine number, and when I looked it up, it has the carb and tank like I posted a photo of a few posts back.

Save your money on buying True Fuel and simply use fresh pump gas that is correctly stored.
