Yeah, belt is nothing to worry about. It is very easy to align the steering wheel if you do get it. Nice they offered a discount for it though! The metal hood is a HUGE plus. Also, it isn't hard to just remove the chute if you get it.
I found a yth42dxls with 122 hours listed for $1,500. Has the 22 HP Kohler v twin 7000. I might check it out!

Yeah, seems to have most of the features of the TS242XD.

Pros of YT42DXLS:
  • Cheaper
  • Has CTEK charge port and Battery indicator (I installed one on mine, it's so nice to have!)
  • Auto-locking differential
Cons of YT42DXLS would be:
  • No warranty
  • No repair/service history

Found a 2022 XT2 to look at. 86 hours. $800. It looks to be well cared for.

Pros: price, engine (Kohler 7000 22 hp), low hours

Cons: smartchoke (I'd probably just order the delete kit and install when it becomes problematic), distance (this mower is nearly 2 hours away), stamped deck instead of fabricated.

The seller with the Husqvarna YT42DXLS was supposed to let me know a time to check it out and then never responded.

How are those Kohler 7000 engines?
I have never owned one, but here is what my research has found:
They are generally well regarded. They can be a little bit cumbersome to work on as access to some parts can entail a bit more removal of other parts than some deem acceptable. I have heard people say they are less fuel efficient than comparable Kawasaki engines, and then I have heard the opposite. If you google the lifespan it is generally thought that it can go over 1000 hours with good maintenance. For me, that would be over 30 seasons.

Keep in mind that if you buy a new mower right now, you will lose 6-7 months of the warranty while it sits waiting for spring. However, you might get better pricing now as opposed to waiting until closer to spring. Around here (southwest Missouri) there don't seem to ever be any discounts for time of year. Not sure why. That $800 deal sounds pretty darned good to me. If you don't like it you won't lose much if you turn around and sell it.

Agreed, and if a delete kit for the smartchoke is $150 it's easy to spend that on a mower that cost $800.

I am a guy who loves equipment.
I have 3 old Cub 2284's, all have the Haban 60" deck. They were built around 1990.
They all have the Kohler Command 22Hp.In the last 10 years I put front tires on one, several deck and PTO belts
A PTO switch, a front oil seal. So I have put $250, mostly in tires. I mow 2+ acres and maintain some paths on 3 more acres. I work them hard

I bought the first one in 2011.

My point is i don't think you will ever spend as much as you saved with quality used equipment.

Best of luck in your quest!

I see so many XT1's for sale with bown engines. I don't know if the XT2's have the same issues. If I had to replace my machine I would go used, hopefully, from a dealer and with the best engine. Older if to meet a budget.

The XT1s have lesser engine offerings, new ones have the "Intellipower" on the 42" ones which is a questionable engine from everything I can gather. The new XT2 LX42s have the 20hp Kohler 7000 series engines. Really that's the only reason I am looking for a XT2 vs XT1.
