I pulled an old well worn JD160 from a town dump and went to work getting it into running order. After a long day of effort and spending about $50.00 I managed to get it up and running. The only problem was 1st, 2nd and 3rd speeds were not working. A friend said he had an old JD transmission that might work. Well the transmission was from an old JD110. After close examination I think it can be accomplished. The only problem is the different sizes of the driven pulley and the old 110 has an access port for adding some type of lubricant.
Does anyone see why this swap will not work. I am going to start loosing nuts and bolts tomorrow. Let me know. Jack

Hello T,

We need the product label ID number from each machine.

I'm thinking the only compatibility might be the main mounting points.

Linkage and operation will be totally different.

You must have the same transaxle for replacement as original. IE: T40 Tuff Torq. Otherwise you have to do modifications and it can get to be a lot of work, or will not work at all, depending on situation.

Going from Peerless or Dana manual to a hydro static would require a lot of changes.

Beside they the 110 and 160 use complete different transaxle styles. The 110 used a horizontal engine and the transaxle was also horizontal driven where the 160 uses a vertical engine and vertical driven transaxle. So basically if you a very good at lots reworks it might be possible but it is just much easier just to get another Peerless transaxle.

And we need exactly which 110 and 160 you have the transaxles from.

110, E110, L110, LA110, LT110, S110, or X110 ?

160, D160, E160, LT160, or S160 ?
