Blade engagement handle

my 46 inch XP riding lawnmower blade engagement handle won’t lock down when I push down on it to engage blades. It will cut grass if I hold the handle down but just keeps disengaging when I let it go any help would be appreciated.
 
Lets start with the model and serial number from under the seat so we can see what mower you are having issues with.
