I was trying to get my old McLane edger started, wasn’t having much luck so I dropped the gas tank, and the yellow tube with the filter on it broke off. Looking to replace that filter. Anyone know of a part name or number? My edger is the McLane 801-3RP. Seems like it’s impossible to find ANYTHING for this machine. Looking at other cab kits it’s appears like that tube might be somewhat universal. Any ideas?
 
Post post the model, type and code numbers of the engine, which are stamped into the shroud near the spark plug. I think I know what you need, but want to double check before answering your questions.
 
For engine parts you would to look the engine's model and type numbers to correct the parts. Look like it is an old L head so the numbers should on the engine shroud (flywheel cover).
 
Further research show that you might have a Briggs 090102-0116. IF so the plastic pipe is replaced by PN 296476. Most likely the yellow color of your is from aging in the fuel.

Hi StarTech,

curious if you know much about the working of this piece. I received the part but it looks to be a tad bit to small. It doesn’t7FC964C3-5510-43C1-A4FC-C810AFFE0412.jpeg fit over the metal piece (see the pic for reference). I’m wondering though, does that metal tip come off? Inside of the new tube, there’s a metal piece at the very top. I’m wondering if that is supposed to replace the metal tip on the rod. It broke off the tip of the old tube, which was still on the metal tube on the edger. I’m thinking it might fit if that tip is able to be removed.
 
That is the fuel pickup tube. Fuel gets sucked from the tank into the pump area then to the carb.

If you can't find that OEM Briggs part, Taryl did a video about using a piece of stainless brake line. Something like 3/16" diameter I think it was???. Don't quote me on that size. Basically you cut a piece of it the same length as the broken one and gently hammer it in. Also use clear ladies nail polish to glue and seal the tube in. Clear toe jam polish is impervious to gasoline.
