Depurator

I bought a used Gentron 10,0020 generator. There is a plastic valve(?) on top of the gas tank. Gentron calls it a depurator. Does anyone have a idea what it does, is it necessary to operate the unit? This one is broken and deciding if I need to replace it.

I suspect it is the vapor recovery valve which doubles as a rollover safety valve. It acts as the tank vent since most likely the gas cap is not vented. So if it clogs it will act like a clogged cap vent. Not needed for operation other than tank venting.

Thank you for the info. I'll know where to look if it acts like a vapor lock
