I have a Craftsman mower. Model # 917252540. Serial # 062995A. No mower deck. I have used this just to pull a cart and a small drag. The trans axle has gone out. Hope I can find a good used one local. Will other brand mower trans axles work?

Yep, look for a Peerless, I adapted one in a 917 many years ago..

I think the original was Dana and Tecumseh Peerless will replace it but make you get the linkage as they are different lengths.

The Dana 6 was crap, it was discontinued & called obsolete not long after I bought that mower way back. I filed a case with BBB, & won. Was able to pick the parts off Sears parts direct to do the Peerless swap.

Thanks for all the info. I found a Poland Pro lawnmower (local) that had a Peerless 6 speed in it. Up and running again.
