Can someone tell me what is happening to these bushes?

I have several of these (I don't know what they are called) usually robust bushes planted around my property. They've been fine for years until about 6 months ago, one started to just die off. Then another followed. Ones right next to them are fine and growing with no issues. I thought maybe insects, but the plant is just dying off, not being eaten. Pics enclosed.

usually when plants die like that it is root related. That means something ate the roots, or too wet or too dry. Or it can be a fungus etc., dog peeing on them, chemicals, too much fertilizer etc..

After the response and more reading, I’m tending to agree. Was just strange how they have been there unaffected for 5-6 years now then suddenly this.
