Kohler cv15 replacement

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. I have a John Deere G15 walk behind mower. Everything on it is in great shape however the old kohler cv15 Is starting to get a little bit tired.. I was wondering if anybody on here since this engine is no longer manufactured knows of anything I could put on this mower that will fit in place of the kohler cv15. It's been a good little motor for a long time but it's almost ready to go. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
 
Looks like the spec number actually comes back to a short block that was used on four CV15 engines. Original spec number 41620, 41635, 41529, and 41584

Ok. How would I use these numbers to find a replacement engine? I'd really hate to buy a new mower because of how great of shape the deck and everything else is in.
 
Your options are to short block your existing engine, or get the crankshaft diameter and length from your old engine and then match it to whatever engine you are interested in. the mounting pattern will be the same no matter what brand of engine you decide on. the other thing is making sure the replacement engine has a large enough charging system. I think your old engine maybe a 15 amp system, but anything over 10 amp would probably be fine. Would require a different exhaust system, and doing changes to the wiring to make it work.

May want to look into the Kohler 5400 series engines which would most likely be a easier replacement than going with another brand of engine.
