Mowing along one min. Stopped for lunch. Mower refused to start back up......cranks strong but no spark on the plugs..pulled grd wire off coils.......no spark.......both coils go bad at same time. Or is there something I'm missing.
I had the same think happen on a Kohler Command 25 on a customers Z turn a few years ago. Shut off engine, let set few minutes, refused to restart, no fire on either plug. Cranked engine one more time, and one cylinder picked up fire, and then shortly the other one came back to life. Replaced both modules.
I ohmed them out and it looks like both coils are open.....infinite resistance.....just seemed wierd that both would go bad at the same time......but I guess they could........ soooo......ordering coils
Thanks, mike
They have a chip in them so you need a computer to test them and some cheap meters will in fact damage them.
The coils have a diode between them to prevent one interfearing with the other.
They are both on the one kill wire which goes to ground to turn them off so if that wire is grouned somewhere it should not be you get no spark.
The std test is to remove the ground wire , crank the engine and check for a spark.
