Trans and carb

MTD 42" 13.5 HP B&S goes OK in 3rd 4th and 5th but 1st 2nd and 3rd slip or won't go at all?
Also the carb was just recently rebuilt but it's leaking from a formed rubber hose that goes from the carb to under the engine cover?

Put the f-n-R lever in the N
With the engine running shift threw all the gears starting with 1st going up to 5th then back down one at a time.
Do this twice.
The carb we will let someone else help you with.

Can't help with the carb until I know which Briggs engine you have. Post all engine numbers and model, serial number of the unit may help also,
