I've read that I should mow it 1.5-2", but it seems like every time I mow it under 3" my grass gets burned. I water my grass twice a week for a total of 1". Am I doing something wrong?

I actually mow my Bermuda grass at 3.5 inches. My lawn is much healthier than the churches lawn accross the street. They mow theirs very short. I mowed it last year at 3.25 and it stayed greener in the hot summer months than my neighbor's lawns. 2 inches is as low as I would even try to mow Bermuda grass. If you can see white caps on your Bermuda when you mow you are cutting it too short. If you are going to mow it that short then you should be mowing twice a week. You may want to fertilize your lawn as well. A little nitrogen will help green it up, but it will grow very fast.

Cut it today.
Just enough to take 1/4 inch off. Or one notch higher then you been cutting.
Then a little higher next time.

Good advice. Don't let it grow for a couple of weeks and then cut it taller. Gradually raise it a little each week until you find what looks best to you.

The length of the grass will determine the depth of the roots. Taller grass equals deeper roots. Grass cut taller will also have everything about it healthier.

Comparing my lawn to the church lawn across the street is proof of that. They usually mow their lawn on Saturday, and I usually mow mine either Saturday or Sunday. I will try to remember to take photos this weekend to show the difference if I don't forget.

Good hybrid Bermuda grass can be cut at half an inch if the ground is level and a reel mower used. Golf courses do it all the time. Warm season grass follows moisture down and have extensive root systems unlike cool season grass. Mow bermuda often. Every week to ten days at least. Do not take off much. Leave it high or leave it low but do it the same all through the hot part of the season. Tall Bermuda is going to look browned some every time if you take off very much at one time.

A golf course also cuts every couple of days.
Greens are cut every day sometimes twice a day.

Very true. I should have mowed mine Wednesday this week. Got a 2 inch rain yesterday and 98 degree temperatures all week. The grass grew twice as fast as it has been growing in recent weeks. I am going to have a lot of clippings on my lawn this week.
