That isn't too bad. Are you in Las Vegas Nevada or really out in a small town? I am just curious here, I've been to Nevade a few times. Even crossed that desert in a car. What a strange place it is with those small towns!

Examples of a Genre
Not a shootout, only a brief note of three models with a simular design that were popularized in the 80's and 90's by consumers who didn't mind paying a premium for the privelege of owning one. Wedge-like Aluminum alloy deck, commercial grade engines, and alleged durability were staple features. I took an intrest in this design when i acquired the HR214, and was impressed by the nice build quality and attention to detail.
These examples were discarded by the previous owners, howerver they required not too much effort to bring back to a useful life, the most effort went to the Honda as it requred a ring set replacement, which I did with help from internet how-to articles. All required extensive carb gum removal and chassis/cable lube due to neglect.
The 1985 Honda HR214 with 2-speed tranny with shaft drive features the remarkably capable GXV120 (118cc 4hp OHV) engine, high grade cables & controls, sturdy BBC, with a record of proven performance in residential and commercial service has earned it praise in many quarters. Contrasting red metal bonnet, attractive engine details, makes it one of the best lookers as well. Many are still in use today including this one.
The 1990 Kubota W5021sc was a limited offering in the U.S., 3-year run I think, and was not a big seller. A shame too, because it is a no nonsense, efficient machine with good ergonomics. Great bagger, good overall mowing results. The Kubota GH150v (146cc 5hp OHV) engine is all business - very reliable and durable. It has the same transmission and shaft drive as the HR214. It rules on larger yards.
The 1994 John Deere 14SB has a long production run and enjoys wide popularity. Powered by the excellent Kawasaki FC15Ov (153cc 5hp OHV) engine, it features an oil pump and filter. With a quirky belt-driven 5 speed tranny and less than great control cables. Tricky maintenance items (you'll want an impact nut remover) but still decent build quality.
So which of these do I like best for cutting grass? I was surprised at the 14SB's overall performance, in particular the great mulching results, good ergonomics and handling. The Kawasaki engine hums along with no drama and brutal efficiency.
Of course these are my thoughts only...Let us know what you think of this genre.
