self propell wont work

Hello I have a craftsman self propelled push mower and as I was mowing it stopped propelling itself. I took the cover off the drive shaft and saw that it is not engaging because the part that connects the cable to the drive shaft that looks like a spring seems to have broke what is this piece called and how do I fix it.

Get your model # off the tag on the mower (will start with a 917. ). Go to Sears Parts Direct and you will see a parts diagram of your mower.
