Hello, I'm Tom and have a Stihl FS 36 that needs a few parts. I see a Stihl FS 45 at flea market that needs the string head. Are any parts between FS 36 and FS 45 interchangeable? Thanks

Re: New Member

I just picked up a really nice MS290 Farm Boss with an 18" bar at a moving sale earlier this summer and used it a few times along side my older Craftsman (Poulan Wild Thing). I hadn't mixed up a new batch of gas for the Stihl yet, so I was limited for the time to what was left in the tank. Wow, I was so impressed with the Stihl, I went out and found myself a MS192T to go along with it for doing trimming and pruning. I'll be putting the old Craftsman on CL one of these days.

Howdy, I'm Snig and will probably have a boatload of Stihl questions. Recently a cousin who had a bunch of Stihl chainsaws was killed in an auto accident and his wife gave me all his saws. Most of them have sat up for a couple years and I'm trying to get them operational again. As I start runing into problems, I'm sure you'll start seeing me post regulary.

Hello, everybody!

I'm brand new to this forum.

I'm basically a city boy from SoCal who tends to the family farm in Arkansas once a year. To do that, I am familiarizing myself with a new set of tools like a 20hp Craftsman lawn tractor with a 42" mower, A DR mower which is really like following a mule that brush hogs (also has a trailing mower attachment), an old Ford tractor with many attachments (brush hog, furrowing discs, a plow, and an attachment that seems to make rows of tilled soil), A Stihl 025 chainsaw, and an Echo 225 line trimmer.

As I only use this stuff once a year for a couple of weeks, I go through learning experiences all over again yearly. Repairs are almost a constant issue, as virtually everything needs some kind of care to get it up and running. Today, my issues are with the Craftsman tractor and the chainsaw. By visiting another thread and doing some reading, I think I've got the tractor problem on the run, as it surely a fuel starvation (clogged carb) issue that makes it only run in full choke. The chainsaw has me stumped. I used it for days with no issue, until I used it to cut up an old chicken coop and dulled the chain. I had the chain sharpened, and now it won't run. I can get it to start, but it won't idle for long with the choke on and it dies when I pull the trigger in idle. I dunno, maybe I'm flooding it.

Anywhoo, I'm here in the Stihl thread looking for answers.
