I have made a lot of gaskets in my many years of repairs. But when it comes to carburetor gaskets it is on the tricky side. I say but the right gasket and be done with it.

Check with auto parts stores they have o rings. If they don't try home depot also carry o rings you might find a suitable replacement

I buy o rings for carbs in bulk at napa 50 cents a piece
