Looking to replace my 16 year old Sabre riding mower. It has served me very well but it is starting to have some issues. Looking for some suggestions on a decent rider. I mow just a bit less than 1 acre. Usually side discharge but will occasionally use a bagger. I do use a bagger in November and December to get up leaves. Looking for at least a 42" cut, any suggestions?

You will probably get a lot of different answers on this but I love my YTH24K48 fast tractor from Husqvarna. I have over 35hrs on it and other than my stupidity when I hit the water valve cover I have had no problems. Great mower, plenty of power and fast. At 7.4 mph you can cover a lot of ground with a 48" deck. And don't let a lot of the Kohler engine stories steer you away from these engines. I think 95% of the issue's were with the single cylinders wich they have since fixed.

I personally dont like kohler courage engines. my craftsman (which i love) is a kohler command (20hp). i love that motor. nothing has gone wrong with it. i would and alot of others would rather work on a briggs and stratton. but alot of the bigger names are changing to kohler like cub cadet, husqvarna, john deere all of those. i think ariens and craftsman use briggs.
Thanks for the replies so far. It seems the weak link in the sub $3,000 tractors are the hydro transmissions, specifically the TT K46. Doesn't the Husqvarna 24K48 use a heavier transmission? Do the mandrels have grease fittings? I would prefer a Kawasaki engine but don't have a problem with Kohler or B&S.

the one at home depot was an ariens and it was the only one there that had a briggs in it.

Yes, the YTH24K48 has the K57r from Tuff Tq. It is a beefed up version of the K46. You can go to Tuff Tq's web site and look at the difference.
