I bought a 28" Rear Engine Rider Hi Vac tonight on Craigslist and the seller took the posting down immediately so I don't have pictures yet and I don't pick it up until Saturday. Can someone please answer some basic questions:

1. Can the Hi Vac deck side discharge, mulch or bag, or just bag and mulch?

2. Do I need an exact model number of the mower before I get a bagging kit, or are they universal? I assume the mulching kits are more specific to the model numbers?

Thanks!

Yes, you can do all three with the right attachments.

There is a difference between different models, some decks have a square outlet and some are rounded. I found this out after buying a bagger on CL and then getting it home. Lucky for me, my local Snapper dealer had a used one that fit my deck so I got it for half price.

The 28" Hi vac will side discharge. It won't mow tall grass as well as the 26" or 30" because the deck is made more for bagging. It will bag grass better than the 26" or 30". The 28" did use a specific bagger kit. The chute being the main difference. Thanks!!!

I have the 28" and the 33" Hi-Vacs. They both mow tall grass great.
They both have their respective bagger versions. I NEVER mulch... waste of time. Mulching is for sissies.
I only bag leaves in the fall. Rest of the time it blows out the side discharge.... I love that!!
Good luck with your mower. It's a good one (unless the lister lied to you)

You didn't give an age or model number so I can't answer your questions with fact - yet.
The bagging kit will not be cheap though.
