Hey everyone,

I have my own lawn mowing company. I have an electric blower and a Yard Works gas trimmer. I would like something better than that. I was thinking about buying a STIHL FS90 motor with a trimmer end and a blower end. Would this be a good investment or should I be dealing with another company such as ECHO or Shindawa? I need something powerful for blowing wet leaves in the fall and clean entrances in spring with a power broom attachment.

The Stihl KombiSystem or the Echo Pro Attachement Series might be good for the powerbroom, but I'm not sure about the blower. It would be good for grass, but I'm not sure how it would work for wet leaves. You might want to look into a powerful handheld or a backpack blower just for the leaves.

If your thinking of that Stihl KombiSystem or the Echo Pro Attachement Series for a business I wouldn't waste my money. Buy the FS 90 R and a good back pack blower and you'll be much happier with them than either the Stihl KombiSystem or the Echo Pro Attachement Series. Those type blowers really do not have the power to move much debris and if you are trying to move wet leaves that would take all day with one of those systems. As far as ECHO or Shindaiwa goes there the same, made by the same company.

I did try a hand held Jonshered blower and it was very strong! So, I guess I will get a Hand held or back pack blower and then a FS 90 for the trimmer and power broom.

Is there a big difference in between the hand held blowers and back pack blowers or is it just for the comfort?

There are some backpack blowers that are only just as powerful as handheld blowers, but others are way more powerful than handhelds. Below is a graph of how they are. Some people get a backpack blower just because they want the comfort, but others buy more powerful ones that handheld blowers couldn't compete with.

Yes there is a lot of difference between the two, engine size for one. Most Hand held units are 27 / 28cc engines and backpack blowers can go into the 60cc range. When you purchase a blower you should buy it according to CFM not MPH and not understanding the difference between the two can lead to people wondering why the blower they just purchased isn't efficient for the job there trying to do. Take the graph that LMF just put up in his post, it shows air speed which basically is worthless and meaningless because velocity doesn't move debris, Volume does, but yet it sells blowers because people like the idea of that big number in the spec sheet. The blower you were talking about for the FS 90R only produces 120 mph and that's not as powerful as a Hand Held unit.
 
Could anyone of you recommend a well priced hand help blower that would be strong enough for the fall? it is so quicker than racking for hours:thumbdown:

I once worked with a Shindawa handheld blower for two days straight and it was awsome! Gobs of power also! Alltho, I forgot the model:frown:

Well Shindaiwa and Echo are the same company, so I would recommend the Echo PB-255LN. Quiet and powerful! I did this with it:
