Sears rear engine rider

I just got a Sears rear engine rider off Craigslist and I trying to figure out which engine it has. I read someplace it is a re-branded Murray with a Tecumseh engine but I can't figure out the murrary model or the Tecumseh model. The Sears model for the mower is 502255610.

This guy took really good care of this thing it looks great and runs pretty good too. I think it just needs some maintenance. I mowed my back yard with it with no trouble. It was 125 bucks and fit in the back of a Focus ZX5 :)

I need to take off the gas cap to get it started so I am guessing the vent on that is plugged.
 
That is a really interesting piece you have there. It is for sure a murray, and judging by the shape of that fan shroud, and the splash guard on the tank, I'd agree it's a Tecumseh. Are the labels/stamps on the engine legible? That'd be a good place to start at the tecumseh website, you can decode the model and the year of it. I'd guess by the smallish nature of the machine, it's a 5HP (thus the 5/25 moniker - 5HP, 25" cut). It is fairly old, it still has the "sears" logo on it, in the box - they haven't used that on their equipment in a LONG time, and they stopped sourcing Murray for their stuff years ago.

The plate on the mower is readable that's where I got the model number of the mower but I don't see anything on the engine. I am going to look at the engine some more for a model I know it's a 5HP too.

Here is a pic of my 10 30. It has a Tecumseh electric start 10 Hp.
I did not get the side covers with mine. You still have the 5 25?

The gas cap should be vented.

Yep I still have it, wish I had the electric start :-) mine is still a little hard to start.

I need a new blade and I think the only place I can get it is from sears online.

Where did you get the 10/30?

I bought mine off Craigslist for $50.00. It was Two block down the street!
It is missing the side panels and back tow piece. It has a 10 Hp Tecumseh.
The carb was all junked up and was hard to get clean. Both rear tires were
shot. Is your engine a Briggs?
Ask the forum where to get your 25" blade. A lot of the members are pro's.
 
I've still got mine, but it's long past running and will require major effort to get it going again. Mine has the Briggs engine. One thing I like about the Tecumseh engine is that it has an internal oil pump and drilled passage in cam for oil lubrication. My cousin also had one and she ran it till it fell apart and sold it for $50 and as far as I know it's still going! They're handy to get in a tight spot mowing, and turn easily. The ride is rougher than on a front-engine mower.
