Re: Trailer towing

I removed the 230 pound automatic transmission from my truck without being crushed by it, cleaned all the parts, and took them all into my bedroom. Following this, I built the transmission to heavy duty specifications on a table beside my bed. I also modified the valve bodies to improve the shift firmness and timing. Upon completion, I reinstalled it and added an electronic transmission cooler to keep it cool in the hot Florida weather.

YOU! .. YOU don't need a pick-up truck, you need a semi-, to haul all those mowers and weed-whips that you abscound with. ....

Re: Trailer towing

I had a few friends down South Fl. way, YEARS ago, when I first got out of the military, 1970 , they went into new-car dealerships in a factory sponsered training pgm. told me all the problems of their days, granted I have NOT kept up with vehicles as I used too, but I remember well, being told of how many trannys would fail, months after towing a boat or trailer of some sort, even the vehicles with a trailer towing option, just beefier suspension and a tow bar installation, NOT a better or modified tranny, nope, I rebuilt a few manual trannys in my day but the first time I saw the innards of a matic I said UNT-Uhh , I aint touchin that can of worms. IF I REALLY, REALLY need a truck, I'll go rent one from U-Haul, cheapest way out in my book ! car's are designed to carry people, trucks are designed to carry schitt ! SIMPLE ..NO ..??? ....

Boo,

I don't want to start a battle over which is better (Ford/Chevy/Dodge/Toyota/Nissan/ or even Honda) as far as trucks are concerned, but in reading RV magazines back in the early 2000's (like 2003, just before we took off for our tour around the country) I realized that at least Dodge was having serious tranny problems when it came to using them as a tow vehicle. There were aftermarket companies making finned transmission covers, add-on tranny fluid coolers, all kinds of equipment to compensate for transmission problems you might encounter when hauling a trailer. That was what made me install the transmission temperature gauge. I put it in mid-winter before we left (day after Mother's Day) and the damn thing never moved, not even a mm! So I called the manufacturer and they said it was probably the sender and sent me a new one. Well, I tested them both using hot water and an ohm meter. Both read the same, so I sent the new one back and said - "Sorry"! Then I called Ford and asked about transmission temps for that truck. They sort of laughed at me and said the transmission was designed to hardly even warm up under normal conditions. So, I figured the gauge would register something once we hooked up the trailer. Well, it didn't. At first I thought it was because it was still cool here in the Northeast, but eventually I gave up looking at the gauge and had almost forgotten about it until we climbed Wolfe's Pass and I happened to glance down at it! I almost schitt myself! Here the damn thing had never moved and now it was reading 230 degrees! but like I said, it went right back down again. Some vehicles are built to take it and maybe some aren't..

I had thought about renting a truck, but figured you were too cheap!! Don't you take stuff to the dump, or carry firewood, or something on a fairly regular basis? I couldn't live without a truck or my trailer..

Continous buytnol membrane roof ?
Cant do that down here cause the UV kills them in no time flat.

If Boo built one the rubber would need to go on the internal walls

Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Run that one past your wife and see what she says,
Yes we are all animals at heart and have base desires but as previously mentioned ripping the cloths off every woman that took your fancy is a no no
Doing the same thing inside your head is not much better than doing it in reality and makes it very difficult to treat that person as an equal or think of them as anything other than a sex doll.
That attitude is a big problem with women in the services.
We had a major enquirey about sexual assult in the services and they could not find a woman who had not been gang raped by her fellow service people at some time in their service career.
Even worse this was the same regardless of their ranks and was just as prevelent among CO's , the very group supposedly picked & trained to suppress emotions & always make rational decisions.

Then we get modern things like revenge porn, 97% of it is ex-boyfriends posting revealing images of their ex- girlfriends and in many cases the girls were badgered and harassed into posting the images in the first place.
A womans maternal instinct is a lot stronger than a mans ( scientifically proven dozens of times ) but because we ended up in a partiarchial society ( this is not natural by the way ) women are forced to surpress their desires lest they become loose, bicycles, truck tyres, sluts or whores while the same actions of a male make him a stud.
Worse still is women feel they should go along branding fellow women this way, bad enough that men do it.
The only derogitory term ( apart from rapist ) applied to males in a nob ( door knob- any one can have a turn ) and that is just about unique to women.

Now if women really got off on mens bodies, the internet would be awash with images of mens bodies, but it is not.
A survey done a while back on naked bodies images on the web came up with 82% women & 18 % men and of the mens images 95 % were on gay web sites
\

So yes there are base instincts but they are nowhere near as strong and "natural" as one would think.
They have been culturally manipulated for thousands of years to enforce patrichary and surpress matriarchy lest the women rise up and run things.
Look at Scandanavia, a substantial difference to USA or even Aust culture because women were considered as equals right from the start.
Patriarchial societies went as far as to go to war with Matriarchial societies to wipe them out lest they challenge the "natural order" .

Bert-Man,

I still have to disagree. If you re-read what you wrote above and analyze the salient points, I think you will realize that base animalistic drives are what's behind nearly all that we do. Certainly those drives are modified by whatever society we have grown up in, to one degree or another, but the very fact that they are consistent whether you are talking about man's best friend or your neighbor's snappy wife, pretty much proves the point.

Please understand that I completely agree with you as far as treating women as equals are concerned. Rape, assault, abuse and the rest have no place in a civilized world, but that doesn't keep me from appreciating a good looking woman. In this instance "appreciating" does not mean "ripping her clothes off", either mentally or physically, but then I'm approaching my mid-70's, with a 'dusting' of snow on my roof and just about enough heat left in the boiler to keep the engine running. However, I can still dream and sweet dreams often put a smile on my face... I 'hope' those smiles are interpreted as honest 'appreciation' and nothing more. (I'd hate to be included in the current rash of "sexual abuse" cases! "He SMILED at me and I felt uncomfortable!!")

Honey, if what 'he' did was bad enough to report, then you should have kicked him in the nuts like your mother taught you and have been done with it!! - - - Sorry, I got caught up in current events..

Re: New Zealand

California imported millions of them to "tame the desert".
They have been paying the price ever since.
Gums are the fastest growing hardwoods so get used for wood chip plantations world wide.

NZ is a nice place to visit, but I would not like to live there.
Too much rain
too much wind
too many earthquakes.
too many people

not enough work.

I have roots in Aust and in reality it is a blessed country plagued by bad politics.
Because it is blessed we get really lazy self serving politicans who have destroyed the country for their own personal gain.
The auto industry is a perfect example.
Then we get stuff like off shore detention.

Bert,

I did notice the number of active volcanos in NZ, but I didn't think the population was too heavy. Sure is a beautiful place, no doubt about that!

Oz has no exclusivity when it comes to corrupt politics. The dislike for politicians is universal. That tells you all you need to know.

I didn't understand the "off shore detention".. I thought Australia was started (from a European view) as a location of "On Shore" detention..

- nice shed there Goomba, wish I had an inkling of your wood-working knowledge and abilities, you should be proud !!

Thanks Boo,

In my professional life as an electrical contractor, I got to work with some of the best in all the building professions and that's where I learned what little I do know about construction.

Re: New Zealand

Funny, we like to call them sheep shaggers, but we actually have a much higher ratio of sheep to people than the "Shakey land"
In fact we have the highest ratio of cattle to people and sheep to people of any country in the world.
You have to see a 10,000 head flock of sheep to believe it

Bert,

I doubt I've ever seen 10,000 sheep all at once, but I have seen maybe 500-1000 in a single flock out in the West and when they came flowing over a distant mountain side, they looked like a cloud floating down to the valley floor. This particular flock had no humans with it, just two very large white dogs who seemed to be in charge and rounded them up on the valley floor and kept them there until the next morning when a man on a horse did ride down into the valley and then he and the dogs drove all the sheep back up they way they had come, over the mountain top and out of sight. It was a vision I have never forgotten.
