Re: Clyde's Daily Thing to Be Mad At

Clyde,

Their attitude about their repair manuals must go hand-in-hand with their determination to stay out of big box stores and only be sold by servicing dealers. I can understand their intent.

Roger

Ever heard of Rural King ( something akin to Tractor Supply) ... Similar to H-D & Lowes, but mostly Agri. equipt.
there may be one near your area, check their site for locations . ..:tractor:

I can understand that as well.
The instant you start down the big box route then your product is on a down hill ride quality wise to maintain the profit margins of the big box franchises which down here is well over 100%.
Franchise chain makes 100% and the retailer doubles the wholesale price to the customer so they are on 100% as well.
JD are the exception down here which is why JD mowers are very cheap compared to the rest of the market.
Down here Honda also does not sell through big box stores either, only stand alone Honda shops , stand alone mower shops and in the sticks, stock & station agents.
Stihl is also sold through selected hardwear stores, but that is on an individual store basis and very few do servicing.

Oddly enough Stihl & Honda are now being co-sold through the Still stand alone franchises, a funny marriage of goods but the Stihl franchises dropped World Lawn so they are shooting at the serious quality products market & have started a subtle advertising campaign to that effect.

Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Over here, Husqvarna has a homeowner line in the big box stores and a commercial line sold exclusively through dealers. Parts and diagrams are readily available for both. The homeowner Husqvarnas are actually quite good once you tune the carbs correctly. The commercial ones are excellent, and after the redesign a few years ago they are starting to steal Stihl's market share. It will be interesting to see how much leverage they have on the commercial market a few years from now.

When I was into the lawn/tree service helping my son, ( in South Fl. ) a few years (quite a few) back, Many folks switched from Stihl to Echo, and, a BIG seller there, Shindaiwa, I still have 2 Shindaiwa stick edgers 1 is 25+ yrs. old, the other about 20, ( LE-20 & LE-230,) both still runnin like scalded arse apes, price for Shindaiwa was sometimes higher, but at least the manuals and parts were available.
