Kees 22 hp 61 inch zero turn will not start. Turns over fine turning the key but no spark to the plugs. Was running great, turned a corner, it backfires and went dead, now will not start. Suggestions?

I have now cleaned relays and have spark at the plugs and gas, but the compression is only 28-30 in both cylinders. Does that mean I have valve problems?

Well, I have discovered my problem. The cam gear on the crankshaft cracked and is spinning on the crankshaft. Is this a common problem? Can I weld the gear to the crankshaft? How do I align the gear if I weld? OOPS the engine is a 22 hp Kohler.

With 30 psi compression right it's a big valve problem... should be closer to 150...
& you found the problem... don't weld it, get the parts necessary and replace it... should not be a problem finding Kohler parts...Lawn Mower Parts, Small Engine Parts & Much More! | PartsTree.com - Briggs, MTD, Toro, Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Troy-bilt... :smile:KennyV

Thanks for the advice. Is this a common Kihler problem? I was surprised the gear was not keyed, but just pressed on.
