Yamaha/Rigid generator

I have a Rigid gen with a Yamaha motor that refuses to start after carb destroyed by bad gas. Replaced carb and still no start, good spark but won't even hint to a start with ether or gas in cylinder. What next?
 
Sometimes a plug won't spark under the high compression in the cylinder.
Did you test it with an inline spark tester or pull the plug and hold it against the engine?
