X500 question

Hi all... I have a question about the home maintenance kit I bought for my 2010 X500. In regards to oiling the pre-filter, the manual states, "NOTE: Do not put engine oil on precleaner. Engine oil on precleaner can result in poor engine performance.". In the kit itself though, there was a small piece of paper stating that the pre-filter should be oiled prior to installation. So which is correct? I always oiled the pre-filter on my GT235.

On the precleaner I have never added engine oil to it, but I have had filters in a kit that took specific precleaner oil, so I would follow the manual personally.
Now one question is this a JD kit or some other company?

Don't believe it is an actual JD kit. I got it off Ebay. It stated that it was a "modified version" of the Home Maintenance kit. Basically contained all the components minus the 2 qts. of oil to save on shipping charges. I just find it strange that they want the prefilter oiled on my GT235, but not on the X500.

On my brand new X739 it says to not oil the prefilter also, first small engine I've ever had that requires that. The only reason I could think of is that the X739 is fuel injected with lots of electronic engine controls so maybe the manufacture doesn't want the chance of oil getting into the fuel injection system if the owner over oiled the filter.
