X500 44" Snow Blower Problem

I just purchased a X500 with the 44" snow blower mounted at the dealer.

We had our first snowfall of the season and I couldn't wait to try it out. As luck would have it, every time I engaged the PTO to engage the auger, the belt popped off. I was able to put the belt back on each time, but when it came off the third time, I stopped.

Anyone know why this may be occurring and how to remedy the problem.

My guess is that either the belt is too loose, but unknown why.

I'm not familiar with all the ins & outs of the mower/snowblower as this is the first time I've used it, so I don't know if it is the belt, or the tension on it, plus I don't know how to adjust the tension if it is .

Yeah that would be my guess, but I would wait for a mechanic to reply to see how to tighten the belt or to see if that's the problem.

Maybe the belt was the wrong size put on at the shop when they put it together? or the pulleys probably were not put on the correct way. i have never worked on a snowblower itself before, just the engine but that is what i would think since i have worked on many riding mowers and thats what happens, also on my craftsman mower the belt had a twist in it and it made it looser for some reason.

Problem solved! I called my J.D. dealer Monday morning (Christmas Eve day) at 9am and spoke to the service department. The gentleman said they were short staffed due to the holiday, but had one delivery that morning at 11am and would have the technician come by afterward.

The tech arrived at noon and noticed the tension pulley looked high. He took it off, then noticed that one end of the bracket that held it on (it was "Z" shaped) was not level. The tech was able to bend it back into level and put everything back on in 25min.

After starting, we pulled the PTO switch numerous times & the belt held firmly in place and just in time, as we're supposed to get a big snowstorm here overnight.

I had heard good things about the Lakeland Equipment John Deere dealer (Avon, NY branch) I bought my X500 from, and it appears that they are as good as advertised! I didn't expect that level of service, especially on Christmas Eve.

We pay dealer retail prices and should get good service. My dealer is great and I expect them to be. I could have gotten a lower price elsewhere but not a better deal. My machines have always been properly prepped and on time. Plus, anytime I need advice the Sales, Service and Parts guys readily offer good sound solutions. I get good value in return for my dollars.
