Wright stander x vs. scag v-ride?

I have been thinking about getting a stander, but not sure what to get. I'm not sure if I will get one this season or wait until next season. But anyways I use a scag walking behind with a sulky(2012) but it can be a pain. I have heard a lot of good things about wright and like the compact size. Which is better? Also as I expand, I hope to eventually buy hustlers (long from now, but in the future) and wright would be more uniform with hustler

Well it sounds like you've already made up your mind! But below is a thread to provide you with more info. Personally I think the Wright stander would be good for you!

It does look like that, but I am skeptical bc I also have seen on other forums that the wright clumps and that the scag cut is better. I love my walk behind cut, but it is only a 36" and a pain bc it's a belt drive. But yeah, if the wright deck isn't as good as scag, I wouldn't want to down-grade lol

Have you looked at the Toro Grandstand or the Exmark Vantage, both are excellent units and have better cuts than the wright or scag IMO.

No one in my area runs any wrights so I can't say much about the cut or quality. But there are a ton of v-rides around. I run one myself. And I've been more than pleased. The cut quality is excellent. If you get into some taller stuff. It will do a great job discharging the grass and cut everything. So far the machine has done a great job. The only complaint I have with it is the hydro fill is right underneath the instrument panel and is difficult to fill and check the level. There is no dipstick or markings so it's a rough guess from the neck of the tank. But overall it's a great machine with an outstanding cut quality.

I have a Toro Grandstand unless your yard is flat and has great drainage look at something else.

I thought standers were supposed to be good on hills? :confused2:

There excellent on hills and slopes, in fact they can mow up to 20 degree slopes, places where a ZTR can't go.

I must be mowing to great of an angle or my chubbiness makes it top heavy it slides down most of the hills I mow. I was told by my Toro dealer that stand on mowers you eaither love em or hate em.

lmf,

That's a VERY interesting tidbit you posted!!!! I always read threads where someone quotes a "grade" in degrees they are concerned about mowing and I knew there was a "difference" in grade and angle. This grade vs angle picture(with grade % and it's relative angle degree) makes the "difference" much easier to visualize!!! Good work/research!!!!!!

If there going to put together a video of hill and slope mowing at least they could find someone who knows how to mow and operate a stander because the guy in that video sure doesn't.

Not that I know how to, but I was thinking the same thing! :confused2:

All manuals tell you to mow across slopes or hills not up and down because going up that slope what will happen if the front end decides it wants to come up :confused2: Watch the video and listen to the drives whine going up the slope, that's sure great for them and he has no control going down the grade. When he did go across at the end of the run coming at you he turned down the slope and couldn't complete the turn and when he got the mower stopped he tried to turn and couldn't, the guy had know idea what he was doing with that mower. If he would have started at the bottom of the slope and mowed across always turning up the slope at each end you never lose control of the mower, he could have completed the job in half the time without endangering himself and the mower.

I went out to the neighbors and check the angle it was 40 degrees no wonder the grandstand slides downhill instead of rides. The video does not show the mower pulling a wheelie when he mows up and down. My 280 pounds on a hill that steep would require I step off and walk behind to keep it on the ground. I

The slope in the video could be done with a Grandstand or most any stander if done right and it doesn't show the mower pulling a wheelie but I also know how easy it could happen and for a inexperienced operator like the one in the video based on some of the things he was doing, it's an accident looking to happen. The Grandstand and Vantage are both rated for 20 degrees, not sure about the Wright, Scag and some of the others.

Scag is 20 degrees, also.
