Picked up these old Lawn Boys today. One is a 1974 model 8232 D series engine, and the other is a 1979 model 8238AE F series. Both are self propelled. The 8238AE has the electric start option but is missing the battery and starter motor :(. I have another 8232, but this ones in much better condition and might get restored over the winter, along with my old LB edger. Anyone else have any winter projects in the works?

What a coincidence -- one of my projects is a model 8232 (1974) -- I have a good one and a parts machine. The "good" mower runs and has good compression but probably needs seals and ports/muffler cleaning.

I like the look of the 8232: the white top and the shiny stickers.

The drive mechanism had been removed -- I don't care for them on lightweight mowers.

This is the good one:

I also have a 1979 model R7268 that doesn't run but I'm hoping to make into a good mower.

The models like the 8232 are appealing to me as well. I was shocked to see the 35 year old decals were in such good shape on the one I picked up today. I put clear tape over the ones on my other 8232. I sold my 1978 R7266 the other day. Kinda hated to part with it but I think a good hobby is one you can make money on instead of sinking money into it. Especially when my hobby operates on my public service income haha.

I wonder if they made a mower that looks like the 8232 but isn't self-propelled.

Both of my 8232s had been sitting outside for a long time when I bought them but the stickers are in good shape in spite of that.

Here's a close-up:

Yes. I've seen some that have the same style shroud but green instead of white. The only year for the 8232's was 1974, and ele start was one option. Not sure how rare they are.
