White LT-1500 Excessive Drive Belt Wear

The belt is wearing hard on the inside face. The "Vees" are smooth and clean. After 15 or 30 minutes of operation, the belt is HOT. I have checked all pulleys for smooth, free operation and they have no rough spots or burrs. Does the variable speed pulley (Part #54 in the diagram) just wear out? It seems to be okay, but I can not find any obvious place that is chewing the inside of the belt to shreds. Any help?

I am a little confused. You talk about the belt, and the variable pulley, but the parts diagram that you have listed is the pto drive belt. If we are talking tranny drive belts, then I have seen the variable pulley get a groove worn into it, as well as wear glass smooth, which will cause slippage of the belt. I have also seen the engine drive pulley get a groove worn into it which will cause belt slippage. If we are talking the pto belt, then you need to check the belt guides on the double idler pulley setup, as well as make sure you are not getting one of the pins on the wrong side of the belt cover on the deck
