Which Gasket Do I need?

I've got an old Toro push mower with a Briggs #127802-0640-01. The primer bulb does nothing and I have to pull 20-30 times to get it to start - or remove the air cleaner and use starting fluid. It runs great otherwise.

I replaced the bulb last year and it didn't help. I'm assuming it's a gasket. Can anyone tell me what's the most likely gasket that's not letting the bulb prime?

Thanks.

If you have an in line fuel filter replace it.
Check air filter for replacement, spark plug, & have you changed oil recently? Pick up a small bottle of Star Tron Fuel Treatment & mix in gas can per instructions on bottle to keep fuel system clean.

I’m willing it’s a combination of a swollen float seat and bad filter to carb gasket. My recommendation is to replace the gasket and the float needle and seat. Plus resetting the float level.

This particular air cleaner/primer assembly tends to warp from from heat or by being over tighten. If it is warped which is usually the cause of no priming just replacing the the 272653S gasket will not resolve the problem. Either a modified wedge gasket assembly of two gaskets or the replacement of the air cleaner/primer base and gasket.

To verify warpage remove the gasket from the air cleaner base and you probably see where there is little to no contact in an area. This is where additional pressure from a wedge gasket comes in play as it corrects for the warpage.

Sometimes the double gasket thing works. I have had to use a very thin skin of RTV on the gasket on the area that covers the channel for the primer when the filter base is watped. Tighter on the screws is not better.

exactly correct. These are a stubborn fix. Get a squirt bottle of gas and wet the air filter and be done with it or fuss with the fix above.

edit - I see now where the primer bulb is on the air filter housing. Mine is on the side of the carb.

Pretty simple to me. And I'm no super g-whiz either. Like the guys have said, the filter housing warps from heat/use/over torque. Parts are cheap to replace. Not a big deal at all. Not like you are diving inside the change the rings.
