Where oh where is my rake?

I loaned my only rake out last year to a neighbor and I never got it back. At the time it did not seem like a big deal. Thing is they have moved away and they took my rake with them!

That's rude. I did that with a shovel once, my mom told me to loan it to the neighbor when I was a kid, the day they moved, I went back over and took it back, I'm not sure they planned on ever returning it.

Bethieboo that is a shame. I tend to keep a shelf in the house for things I have borrowed from people but it is harder with outside items. If you can ever find out where they went you could call round and say the rake is fitted with a tracking device!

My neighbor asked once if she could borrow my weedeater.
I said "no, but I'll be happy to come over and give you a hand with your yard work". She never asked me to borrow anything again.

I just say I do not borrow tools. I had an uncle that would say none of his tools would work anywhere but on his place.

exactly.

I had an uncle, after he borrowed the same thing twice he claimed it as his own and would not "lend" it back.

I am not above borrowing something when I need to, and do not mind letting someone I trust borrow something from me.

At a business I ran many years ago, we once borrowed a skid steer loader from a Mennonite dairyman customer. We used it about two hours. We carried back to him after pressure washing it spit clean (got all the manure and mud off it), filled it up with diesel fuel and hydraulic oil as well. He said he hoped we needed again soon, or the next time it needed hydraulic oil, washing, and was low on fuel at the same time he'd bring it to us to use a couple of hours!

I learned a lot from that episode, plus got a much needed task accomplished. I have had similar things happen to me since when I have let friends use something of mine, and have done something like that myself. I've borrowed a lawnmower before, and before returning cleaned it up and filled it up with gas. The borrowed from and the borrower get a blessing from such habits.

The times that i lend a piece of equipment out it usually came back with something broke or bend (left to me to fix)with only,..sorry.. i hit a tree or a this crack was already there when i picked it up,.. but never ever cleaned or with a full tank if it had an engine.
On one occasion i borrowed a swather out to a neighbor to cut 30 acre oats cause his swather had blown the engine..I had just changed out the guards and knife on the cutter bar and topped of all fluids and fuel so he had a machine that was ready to go..
It was gone for a week and was parked back on my yard when i was gone. I used it a week or so later and found that the whole cutter bar was misaligned and had broken guards and broke/missing sections and a bone dry tank(it held 15 gal when full)..slam bam thank you mam!
Then i found out a couple years later this neighbor had gone and done some custom cutting a rocky field for another guy with that machine.

The few times i borrowed a piece of equipment from somebody it needed something fixed before it was usable:rolleyes:
And i always returned it in same or better shape than it came.

I quit being an idiot,..i no longer borrow and i don't lend,..period.

My wifes friend asked me to borrow my weedeater and blower she was stunned I said no. I offered to go help her she told me no she wants to do it herself. Me and wife got into a fight I was like look this is part of how I bring money into the house I cannot afford any accidents that are not my fault...

Oh jeah,..and then there's family:rolleyes:

The last thing i borrowed was a brandnew $400 honda 4 stroke weed eater to my only Brother cause his own got run over with the truck by his stupid SIL. i had used it maybe 2 hours. I reluctantly let him take it cause his kids are rough with everything and were the ones most likely to use it.
When i got it back a couple weeks later it was covered in mud and grass juices and rusty and all scratched up + a tear in the carrying harnas.
I said , this ain't mine, mine was new and clean and not damaged. he said sorry bro,.. i'll shine it up next time,.I replied sorry bud there ain't gonna be a "next time".
When i wanted to use it a couple weeks later i found the cutter head was seized by a piece of steel wire, they must have gotten in a piece of wire mess and buggered up the seal in the bearing and wrapped the wire so tight that it would not turn anymore.

Thanks bro,i appreciate it

I loaned a ladder to a neighbor once-it was brand new and not yet used and I got it back covered in paint blotches and looking like it belonged to a 5 year old. Ever since then I loan only to people I explicitly trust to either keep things right or MAKE things right.
