When Is It Time To Junk a Mower?

Hey All

The title pretty much says it all. I'm pretty much convinced that my 2001 Toro 268H Wheelhorse (640 hrs) is ready to be junked but my dealer says that they don't make them like this anymore and I should let them keep it running despite the periodic repair bills. Just for the record, I have been dealing with them and they are Honest Joe's and their repair bills are always accurate and reasonable so it may just be a matter of opinion.

So how do you know when to junk a mower? I do have a bit of an emotional attachment to this thing, but on the other hand, those brand-new ZT's look "awful purty".

Its time to get a new mower when you want one. Yes the Wheel horse was a good HD mower and to replace it with the same quality mower will
be big $s. Just something to own a nice new shiny mower with the new smell. Your money so treat yourself. As you see its very easy for me to
help spend your money.

Is it a terrible inconvenience for the mower to in the shop occasionally? If so, then you may need a new mower. And as stated above, you'll spend some major bucks to replace it with an equivalent model.

I say it time to junk it when your mower is falling a part like tire popping and metal brakeing

Thanks for all your replies as it helped me make my decision. This mower is not so old that the metal, rubber, or plastic is cracking and it has never broken down during the mowing season so any repair(s) are done during late fall.

With that in mind, I am going to keep it running while watching for a sale on the Bob-cat Fastcat Pro that I want. Oh, and the great news is that the UPS delivery man stopped while I was putting on a new deck belt and showed me how to fix the cracked hood at the hinge point by drilling a strip of steel or aluminum, anchoring it to two other points on the hood and attaching the nut an bolt through the newly mounted strip of steel.
