Good afternoon folks. Has anyone heard of or had any experience with a Maxim Trim Master? Its a walk behind string trimmer supposedly made in the USA and appears durable. Here is their web address Maxim Manufacturing produces lawn and garden equipment for serious gardeners and the rental industry

Worked on many string trimmer years ago when they were very popular. DR, Craftsman, MTD all had models. Main problems back then was belt slippage (couldn't keep the belt tight) and premature bearing wear. Will get a couple of them in now with the same problem. Not impressed. Customers with them say when they work theybare great, but would not purchase again.

I have a DR That is over 20 years old and is still going strong. I had to replace the cutter head several years ago and several belts. Actually I think the shoulder carried trimmers work a lot better. I bought this one because my wife is too little to carry one around and I was "gone trucking" back when I bought it. Mostly it just sits now. I understand they have a self-propelled model now. I don't think I would buy another one of any variety again.

I bought a Sears Craftsman years ago. After working in an auto plant my arms and hands couldn't take the vibration or the weight of a regular trimmer. We have a little over seven acres and lots of trees and flowerbeds and places that need trimmed around including a huge ditch in the front. We also have a natural spring area in the ditch that we cant get the tractor near to mow. My Craftsman has been BEAT to death over the last about 15 years. I love it. But due to neglect for a few years (from too much on our plate) things have gotten somewhat overgrown in some areas. I have been looking at the DR Trimmer with the "Beaver Blade" to cut down some (alot actually) young trees that have grown up. Does anyone own one of these and what do you think of it? And yes my Craftsman Trimmer on Wheels was worth every penny. I think we took it in for maintenance twice and had something repaired once in all the time we had it.

I have not changed my opinion since last year... BUT Dr is offering a 6 mth trial now, so that's a great opportunity to form your own opinion.
If you have relatively flat terrain, expect a Workout. If you have slopes & hills get a self-propelled model & you will still get a workout.
As to the "Beaver Blade", it will work on small tree saplings, but you will have a lot of short little 'stumps' to work around for years...
Get one and give it a 6 mth 'hands on trial', & Post back with your experience... :smile:KennyV

Mine did the same thing it was a Swisher the tension spring that is supposed to keep the belt tight really didnt do much. As you mentioned though when it worked right it would cut grass taller than me.
