What's your opinion?

lawn mower fanatic

In early November I put a leaf pile in the road at one of my customers houses. But then they started parking their car next to the pile. The leaf truck came once, and then another time, but did not pick up the pile (they either just wouldn't do it because of the car or they just didn't see it). Now the leaf truck isn't coming any more. Who should take care of the leaves? I don't think it's my fault because THEY started to park their car there.

I think you should tell them the truck did not take them because they parked to close to the pile but you will take care of them because you put them where they like to park.
If you charge them you might lose the grass cutting. Some times you need to eat a little to make a lot

OK thanks for the advice.
I really had no other place to put them because the way their property is set up their driveway is along the edge of it, and then on the other side of the driveway is their mailbox, so I put it in the only available spot. And I put a pile there before and never had any trouble...but then they started parking there. :frown:

Humm.... that's a tough one to answer. I wouldn't go to the customer and tell them that it was because they parked there car next to the pile of leaves they didn't get picked up. The reality is if you are offering the service and are removing them from the lawn you are responsible and should take care of the leaves. Have you tried contacting the company with the leaf truck to possibly arranged a pick up.

I would say since you got payed to remove the leaves then you should probably just get rid of them. Maybe next year let them know that if they park in front of the pile the truck will not take them so they will know.

The people who do it are just the municipal department for our township. No I have not contacted them. Chances are they wouldn't do a special trip because they would have to get all the equipment out, just for one pile. But maybe they would since it was there for awhile.

Just move the pile. You cannot account for human nature. Make back the loss over a period of time like any other business does. If you are new to service dealing with the public is a never ending source of amazement. They parked in front of the pile for one or more of three reasons. One-Passive aggressive behaviour. Two-Establishment of territory. Three-Hoarding instinct. More than likely all three. But they will admit to none of them.

OK, thanks for the advice!

Something you can do if you can't get a pick up is to go to Home Depot and buy a box of those contractors garbage bags and bag the leaves up and set them out for the weekly trash pick up. That would probably be the easiest thing to do, but I wouldn't say anything to the client.

OK I am going to mow for the last time at that house tomorrow (mostly to mulch up the rest of the leaves--since the leaf truck is not coming anymore) so I will probably put the leaves in a bag. That is my last mowing OR leaf clean-up of the season! :frown::thumbdown:
