Hi,
I'm replacing the engine on our Craftsman LT1000.
It's a 31H777 Briggs and Stratton.
I pulled the engine, the connecting rod failed due to lack of lubrication:ashamed:
What is included with a short block?
I have heard ALL the internal parts, and also have heard the block, piston and crank.
Thanks for your time.

a short block comes with block ,crank, piston and head
Most short blocks do not include the head. A short block is just a cylinder block with everything internal. Anything that gets bolted or attached to the block is not included. If it is an L-head engine, it will contain the valves, if it is an OHV engine, the valves are in the head which will be bolted to the block, which mean they are NOT included.

i order mine from a guy here in Canada and i get mine with the head ..depends on who and where u get it and what u want to pay ..
could be but he always dose it for me as i don't want to put a used head on new block anyways ..i order like 10 or more a season for people ..If there not worth fixing
Thanks for all your input.
I ended up buying a NOS complete engine for about what the short block and head would have cost.
Just bolted it to the mower, and was wondering if there is a torque spec for the engine pulley bolt.
Thanks again for your time
Thanks again to all.
The new ( NOS - mfg date 2011 ) engine was pretty much plug and play.
Oiled it up, gassed it up, cut some grass.
Any thoughts as to what to do with the old block and parts?
If it's aluminum, I'll take it to the recyclers......
