I have a lawnboy easy stride gold series 2 cycle version. Purchased around 2004 ish. Went to start it yesterday and when i pulled it acted like it was locked up then the motor popped up off the deck and fell over. Looked close at it and found that there are only two pillars that connect the motor to a collar that is attached to the deck and both pillars had cracked completely thru. So i know isn't repairable but would a new 4 cycle engine fit in its place? Nothing wrong with the deck and the drive system works great. Well it did before the motor fell off.

4 cycle engines will fall through the hole in the deck, You would have to fabricate a plate to make it work. Where are you located in Louisiana ? I have some extra parts and might can help you out if you decide to try and get the 2 cycle going again.

I'm a newbie at all of this so I might have this wrong, but if it is the engine mounts that are broke and not the mounting collar you could replace the bottom of the engine itself, it's called a short block. Hopefully someone who knows more about this will come along with a more complete answer.

Some photos might help to determine exactly what is broken. Model number?
The motor is secured to the deck plate with 4 bolts, 2 on the pillars you saw, and 2 on either side of the exhaust port on the underside of the cylinder. Your best bet is to get a salvage motor and use the block, piston, and crank assembly, putting in new rings if necessary. Generally this breakage occurs because the mower blade repeatedly hits large rocks or stones. When you mount new (replacement) block to mounting plate, use red locktite on each bolt.

red loctite on aluminum?I guess that would work if you dont plan to ever take it apart again.
It is what Lawnboy recommends. (Although the workshop manual specifies a Lawnboy brand of thread locker) All bolts below deck. You could use Blue locktite. I have never had a problem removing bolts I secured with Locktite on a Lawnboy.
