Vintage Snapper

I purchased a 1981 Snapper High-Vac push mower several years ago. I have Just now started to restore it. The gear box for the self-propel is dry, but moves freely. I have torn it down and cleaned all the parts. Getting ready to reassemble, but I just don't know what lubricant to use to fill the gearbox. Do I use Motor oil or Gear lube?

Welcome to the forum.

My 21" Snapper has been a solid performer since I got it new in 1985. There are a few parts remaining from the original machine.

Follow the instructions. That grease must be added to the level where manually moving the machine shows grease pumping over the gears.

Got to tractor supply. They have the 00 grade grease for $5 a quart.

On these transmissions, I open them up and wash out with Diesel. Nearly all the mowers I have owned have been dry.
