Victa O ring Replacement

There are 5 O rings on a power torque engine.
3 of them are special size and 2 are standard size but from special rubber.

The ones that give most grief are the ones on the plastic manifold.
So push & turn the carb to take it off the manifold.
Remove the 2 manifold screws.
Remove the O ring that sits against the engine, that is the one that usually leaks.
The one on the outside of the manifold makes the seal against the carb so replace it and clean the inside of the carb.

The pull start has a small one on the center bolt and of course a large one that makes the crank case seal.
Both of these need to be lubed with rubber grease ( vasolene in a pinch )

The last is the one around the primer cap and it also needs to be lubed as above.
The cheapest way to get them for a consumer is to buy them from ebay as a kit.

The only real trick is to push the primer housing on with your fingers till the edge bottoms out on the carb, then do up the main jet to hold it in place.
If you just sit it on the carb then tighten the main jet the primer cover bends and you don't get a good seal.

Also replace the rubber boot on the cut out switch, they tear and can give you grief.
Trick here is to do it with the throttle full open.

And while you are there, do all of the fuel lines.
Being PVC they go hard and leak .
Again they come as a kit nowdays, Victa should have sold a refurb kit & perhaps people would have realised they need to be replaced from time to time.
You can replace the Victa PVC lines with new TYGON lines which will last for a lot longer ( also more expensive ) but you must use the heavy walled tube as the decompressor line & the governor lines are both vacuum and the thin stuff collapses.

Not pissing in your pocket here and fair dinkum....I am sure there are a few with Victas that would benefit from your experience and wisdom.
Keeping the Victa marque alive and relevant is worthwhile.

Not to forget the information will satisfy the crazies that collect grass cutting equipment for all the right reasons :biggrin:

Hi Bert.
What can you tell me about the Victa 505? Leastways i think it is a 505. It has skirt type body and is a 20 inch cut.
Are parts still available and how robust is the drive? Thanks.

Briggs & Stratton are gutting the company.
Thus no parts are available for Victas pre the take over and all the new mowers are a very poor .
Just another Briggs on a Bowl and just as bad as all the other Briggs on a bowl.
All if the good stuff like a throttle cable inside a snorkel .
A snorkel with a filter that does not clog up every second mow.
The Power torque engine.
A chassis that was good for more that 3 years.
All gone and the current mowers sold as Victas are absolute trash.
No doubt this is a deliberate management plan so they can justify closing down the local factory and just fully import the sort of garbage USA home owners have been putting up with for decades.
The power Torque engine doubled in price in the first 3 years of Briggs management so they got approval from the foreign investment review board to contravine the terms of the take over & close down the 2 stroke plant because of lack of sales.
Not a surprise as pre take over the 2 strokes were $ 200 to $ 350 and the 4 strokes were $ 300 to $ 500.
The 4 stroke prices did not change ( some actually went down ) but the 2 stroke skyrocketed to $ 675 so funny enough not many were sold.

Most of the new models have those schitt bar blades used in the USA.
Whatever old parts they had in stock sykrocketed in price to make them uneconomic to repair.
All the locally assembled ones have very poor quality Chinese Briggs engines so naturally they will not sell well against the substantially better quality fully imported ones which will be used to justify the closure of the Milperra assembly plant.

So unless there is a pattern part available, then there are either no parts or the parts are 20 times the price they should be.
Classic example is magneto coils for series 3 & newer power torques.
Were $ 18 wholesale, now $ 197 wholesale so over $ 250 retail.

And Americans wonder why so many people around the world hate them.

Hi Bert. Did the rear chute 20" cut 505 have a mulch plug, or was there a modification used to accomplish a mulch cut??
