Is this a good engine or awesome engine? Is it equal to the Kawasaki FX series ?

Vanguard is a great engine because it is made in partnership with Daihatsu which is owned by Toyota. That's why these engines are so highly regarded...unlike B&S lower end 2 cylinder engines. Maybe not as highly regarded as Kawasaki but I've had one trouble free 25+ years.
