I replaced the v-belt on my Craftsman self propelled walk behind (917.377651). I have had the mower about 12 years and this is about the 3rd or 4th belt. Now, though, the self propelled feature begins when I start it, and I cannot figure out the problem. Any ideas?

Does the cable operate a lever in the gearbox or move the gearbox to tension the belt?
Is the cable sticking?
Is the lever sticking,
Is it the wrong belt?
Could it be the Gearbox?

It moves it to tension the wire. The cable is worn, but it was worn before I changed the belt. The belt is the exact belt. It may be the gearbox. That is about the only part that it could be at this point. I have a new cable on the way though.
