i dont know if this is were i need to be to ask this queston but i own a 2003 scag turf tiger 52 ich cut with the 23 horse kawasaki, when i am striping my return stripe with the discharge chute blowin int the uncut grass the opposite side would be facing each other( sorry hard to explain) it will leave a uncut strip of grass only when it wants to but happens often. sharp blades i even bought a new set last year, clean deck underneath. i dont know what else to do? any ideas

Not sure if I understand what you are saying but if the uncut grass is opposite of the discharge chute it sounds like you need to overlap a little more.
I'm not clear on what you are saying here.
What part of the deck leaves the uncut grass.

yes im sorry it is hard to explain over here but i could show u in person, over lapping more does not help that much but it does comprimise my stripes but have tried previously. when i am sitting on my mower the discharge is on my right, so the other side with no chute is causing the problems, no reason i first thought that the front wheel was just pushing it down an not letting it cut, but why has it not done that in its previous years being a 2003, then i tought the deck wheel could be doing because when im striping the deck wheel rides on the edge of the uncut grass. but dont see how its possible. if anybody reads this that has had this happen to them they will know exactly what im talking about, it is just hard to explain. i just dont know what to do because this is causing me to have to mow everything twice and that cost me $.

Did you try to level your deck?

not sure how, not by anymeans a certified scag mechanic lol the machines are complicated in some way all the time. but seams farely easy just by looking held up by 4 chains off the foot pedal not seeing any adjustments, i just wonder if thisa could be my problem. it doesnt do it all the time, though thats why im confused.

May sound stupid but are you sure the deck belt is tight enough so the spindle for that blade is turning full speed, AND is the mounting bolt for the blade tight enough?

You think adjusting your deck is difficult, well maybe you should try adjusting the one on my JD with a 7-Iron deck...requires crawling upside down on your back between the rear wheels and removing clipos, pins, clevises, etc with practically no room to do it.

Soundguy over on TBN described my issue as "interference fit"....I have NEVER worked on any mower that was such a headache to level.

Don't know specifically about Scag, but if it has not done it before, could you have hit a plastic bag or have something else stuck to a blade ???

lol jd, sounds like something i would let someone else do haha, but i tried some stuff tonite adjusting my deck wheels thought that was some of the problem, but not all of it, now its not as noticable but still there. an now that i look at it there seems to be no adjustments for anything tho level the deck, but you say that about the belt it has a tensioner spring that holds it all the time so unless it breaks then its tight an when it does none of the blades turn, but could i have a bearing in that pulley going? being 8 years old, but it just has 1400 or so hours, but as far as i know its been serviced regularly, not sure if there is grease fitting there but may have to grease or replace it. i keep the deck pretty clean i try to get rid of all the stuff i hit like bags or baleing twine stuff or anything i coulnt see. im going to try and get some pics up of whats going on, may take a day or 2.

It's $60-75 just to have my tractor picked up and returned from a dealership, and their labor rate is $90 an hour...so doing it myself is quite cost effective. I am sure pics would help detail the problem you have. Thanks.

Try slowing down a little. I've noticed goin too fast will leave uneven strips.
Also I use a 3" block of wood to check my blade height underneath the deck.My require lifting deck every time to check every blade but it's a good way to make sure height is correct

Good tip there, I use a section of 2X4 which is 3 1/2 inches wide as a blade height checker.

I had a Scag 29hp DFI, did the same EXACT thing. Took it into dealer, they couldnt figure it out. leveled, checked tilt, tire pressure....etc. Put a new deck on it, still did it. Scag ended up giving me a 35hp brand new. Guess what ? Still does it. Scag must be aware of this issue. I live 20 min away from where they are made in Mayville WI. It drives me crazy.

Are all of the pivot points, levers, etc. working smoothly and consistently? Just thought I'd ask this, sometimes I've got stuff rusted up that doesn't consistently let the deck go to its normal operating location. Also, check for any broken welds.

better cuts

I have a snapper 48 inch cut and does leave a small 3-5 inch uncut strip of grass toward the left hand side more almost right down the middle when I am striping my grass. I have done all kinds a adjustments with blades and wheels. I will try to post a picture. What causes this?

Had a Friend with somewhat the same problem. Turned out that the air in the tires was not right. right side tires were low, causing left side to ride high.
