Troy Bilt Mustang XP 42 Starts then Dies.
First it would only run on choke and when I took it off choke, it would die. Then it would only run on choke for 1-2 seconds then die. I am putting a new carburetor in a few days. I removed the gasoline in case it was contaminated with water and put new Gasoline. Didn’t work. I changed the oil and put a new oil filter. I drained out that new oil to see if any gas was mixed in. Doesn’t look like it. I put a new air filter as well. I also put a new spark plug. I put a new battery as well. I am putting new belts in a few days. What could be the problem? Is it just a carburetor issue that will be fixed when I put a new one in? Thank you all in advance.

most likely after sitting over the winter you need to remove and clean the carburetor out... or replace it if that works better for you, like you said.
