tractor no reverse

My craftsman manual tranny won't go in reverse at all. In order to put it in neural the shifter has to b in the reverse position. When I put the shiftrr in reverse though, I can see the belt slapping around loosely underneath. Also I don't think I have 5th gear either cuz it doesnt drive as fast as other tractors

Make sure there is nothing in the way of the shifter and the pedal. If the pedal don't disengage the shifter will not work right. Then check the belts.
