Hi Folks, I have a 2006 craftsman 5500, 54" lawn tractor that will start then run for about 15 seconds then stop. To start the engine I have to remove the air filter cover and spray gas into the intake. Then it will start up but then it starts to stall so I hand choke the engine at the air intake. By doing this a time or two the engine will finally start and run. My question is what is the problem and how do I correct it.
Thank You

Sounds like you MIGHT have a problem with the "choke" portion of the carburetor, As Catherine stated, we need more info to figure this out, see example.........
The numbers we need should be on a sticker located under the seat (usually)

Is the choke closing?

It could be several things.
1) dirty carburetor. Main jet may be gummed up, whole thing might need a good cleaning
2) Fuel solenoid stuck. If your carb has one of them cylindrical things with the wires sticking out under the carburetor, they tend to get stuck sometimes. Take it off with a 1/2 inch wrench, and spray carb cleaner down along the shaft while spinning it with your fingers, until it moves in and out freely.
3) Dirty fuel filter
4) Fuel too old. Old fuel will sometimes burn, but only if you choke it extra.
