I've got a Pro Series Briggs and Stratton 724cc On my Ride On Mower which currently has a top no load RPM of 3100.
Just checked specs on the Briggs and Stratton website and I've seen both 3300rpm and 3600rpm max rpm for similar engine.
Could anyone tell me which is correct for my model = 44s977 type= 0017b1 ?
I was thinking of taking it up to 3600 by bending the tags but thought I should check first.
I looked through both refs and did not see cited full throttle no load rpm. Both read like a lawyer in court only hinting at what it should be and referring you to microfiche and/or other manuals. Anyway, I may have missed it. IMO go to the lower 3100 figure based upon the number of "rod " problems discussed in this forum and also the warnings in these manuals (despite not telling you what the fast figure is). The rods are slender in the Intek I have. Don't grenade your macine The high torque design of these V's should suffice at the lower speed , perhaps.:2cents:
Most times the high speed idle is designated by the equiptment manufacturer to suit the particular application.
The actual running speed under load is what is important and again it is designated by the OEM manufacturer and generally found in their manual.
Peak power comes in at a much lower rpm.
There is little to be gained by increasing the speed of the high idle and a lot to loose as engines do not like running fast with no loads.
