It seems year after year that we buy Big Boys to plant. They are hardy and a nice variety for us. I also grow cherry tomatoes but I don't know what kind we planted this year. The plants are full though!
I usually grow big boys but also plant differant varieties each year that I haven't grown before.one new one this year is a purple kind that I can't remember the name of w/o going outside to look at.when I do go out I'll post the name. russ
Grape tomatoes are my favorite kind to put in salads and I love the big boy or hothouse for sandwiches. Nothing beats going to the garden and picking tomatoes.
Planted two Topsy Tervys with Celebrity on April 2. Harvested the first tomato on Thursday. Ate it today. Its flavor was mild, not very acidic.

I start my own seeds for a wider variety, usually plant 1-2 plants of each. Celebrity, Arkansas Traveler, Supersteak, Brandywine, Yellow Brandywine, Caspian Pink, probably missed a few! As for the cherry & patio varieties; Tumbler, Totem, Sugary, Sun Cherry, & others, I plant these in big pots close to the house to "snack" off of! ~~ grnspot110

I personally like beefsteaks or beefhearts. I have grown brandywines and other varieties over the years but I keep coming back to my old favorites time and again. I do grow a few Mr. Stripeys for my wife and some cherry or grape tomatoes for use to snack on and to put in salads during the summer. We love "real" tomatoes!:licking:
We always grew tomatoes as a kid and my gram would can them down into pasta sauce, stewed tomatoes and chutneys, I miss those days, hopefully eventually I can put in a garden and teach my wife to preserve the stuff.
We plant Better Boy's, we found for our area that they do not have the acid in them as others do, both my wife and I have a problem with sores in our mouth if we eat too many. Seems to be more meaty and less seeds then some of the others we have tried over the years.
I love tomatoes, any variety. I usually do a couple on my patio, this year I planted 2 in the topsy turvy, they seem to be growing well, lots of blooms, but no fruit yet.
