I need to replace a hydro drive shaft seal.
Is it like replacing a crank shaft seat, are do l need to remove the pump to replace the seal?

The engine isn't going to help as we need to the mower model IPL to see how the pumps are mounted and to see which of seal is used.

Okay getting to it will be a pain and it depends if Scag's frame has a large hole to get the seal out and in. If not then the pump has to come out.

The 51161 [TC 17 x 47 x 7] seal is rubber coated seal that can be easily removed once the snap is removed. As said it depends on what Scag did to the frame but the PK pumps does have a mounting lip which should mean the seal is accessible while the pump is mounted. Make sure you have an oil catch under the pump area. Also sure you use jack stands on a solid surface, not your lawn. Don't want to get crushed by the mower.

I already have the pulley off & it looks very accessible.
Would you have the part number for the seal? I think I will go ahead and change both hydro seals while I’m under it.
One last question if you don’t mind? Is there a procedure and a product to use to flush a hydro system of contaminates if needed?
Thanks for your time and inputs!!

The Hydro Gear PN is 51161. You can also look for the TC17x47x7.

Just make the area around the seal area is clean.
